I love this book, it was the very first book I read of the series. First Melody, a pregnant horse, comes to Heartland because the owner dies and when she gets there she tries to jump a fence. But because she's so big from being pregnant she gets large wood slivers in her, but it doesn't hurt the foal. Also, Tim, Amy and Lou's father come to Heartland in search of Lou and Amy after Lou writes Tim, their father. But there Grampa turns him away because he does not want them to get hurt again because Tim abandoned the family after a horse jumping accident. And Amy doesn't want him in her life when Amy was little so when Lou finds out, she gets mad at Grampa for turning him away and won't talk to him until a night when Melody is having her foal and needs help. A great story about family, healing hearts, horses and moving on in life. A truly amazing book.
