Awwww. Number five in the Heartland series is way adorable. Melody comes to Heartland to be birthed since her owner passed away. She wounds herself really, really badly after attempting to clear a wooden fence. Unfortunately, she doesn't clear it and gets wooden splints stuck in her stomach. They desperately hope that she'll be okay and the birthing will go well. I loved how things always work out in the end. Although the foal has a birthing defect, Jack turns her around and everything is okay. The foal turns out to be a filly. In the end of the book, Amy is watching the filly, and names her Daybreak for the long night that the family had to endure for her. It's so sweet at the end. You get, like, a feeling that eveything's going to be okay and that Amy will develop a bond with Daybreak. It's great.
