In this book Amy and her friend are riding their horses and find a beautiful bay horse trapped in a shed in the darkness. Amy and her friend go home and Amy and her mom go to rescue the horse but when they leave it starts to rain. On their way home there's lighting and the horse is frightened--he kicks the trailer and a tree falls over in front of them. Amy is in the hospital for a couple of weeks but when awakens she finds her mother is dead. Her older sister Lou comes when she hears about the accident. When Amy gets over her mother dying, Lou is trying to help Heartland, but Amy wants everything to stay the same before her mother died. The horse that they rescued is now coming to Heartland and he is not the old gentle horse anymore. He is full of rage and anger. He blames Amy for the accident. He attacks her a couple of times but she tries joining up and it works! They locate his owner before he was stolen but he doesn't want him back 'cuz he was gelded. In the end he takes him back and his granddaughter rides him in contests and he happy and that locked piece of heart is opened when his old owner takes him.
