In Heartland #1, Mrs. Bell dies and her pony, Sugarfoot, is left alone for a week. Amy and Lou find Sugarfoot in his stable. His ribs were sticking out and Amy and Lou both wanted to save him. So they brought him to Heartland and gave him some food but he didn't eat it. Amy kept trying to make Sugarfoot eat by giving him all the remedies that would help him but nothing worked. But one day Lou was in the stall with him and she started to hum a song. Amy snuck in the horse barn and heard Lou humming. She watched them both for a while and then, all at once, Sugarfoot stood up and started to eat out of a bucket that Amy and Lou had put out for him. Then Amy came into the stall and surprised Lou. They hugged each other for a long time. It was a happy moment.
