I read all the way to number 20 and then read the special edition that followed, and I actually wish I wouldnt have.  Amy and Ty not together?  I finished the book yesterday and I am still sick over that.... I am like making up in my mind them getting back together.  I was sooooo mad at the book.  I really regret reading it but oh well to late now. Cry

I felt the same. I was so excited when I heard there was going to be a special edition a couple years after book 20 was released, and it was the biggest let down ever. It was a terrible book which turned the characters I've loved from book 1 upside down. And for no reason at all. I wish I could erase it from my memory lol

Yep, don't bother with anything after Always There. You can read A Holiday Memory (Winter Memories in the UK) which is a special edition, because it's set during the series and is a 'flashback' book, so most of it is set before the series. But Beyond The Horizon, A Winters Gift and A Summer To Remember you should avoid.

Oh Amy's Journal is fine too, it's not really a special edition, more a companion for the series with some explination of some of the methords used in the Heartland books. The short story bits in it, are again flashback ones, so you can read them whenever.

That's your opinion. And it's good someone liked them, I really, really didn't. And for me it's not actually about Amy and Ty splitting up, because that's realistic. I do think they're meant for each other and would end up back together when she's done at college, but while she's there, it makes far more sense that they're not together. I hate the special editions because they turned the characters I loved inside out in to different people. A real let down to fans who'd made the books popular, and just a real shame because if they were going to continue the series, they didn't need to change the format. Sticking to Heartland's roots would have been far more sensible. Instead, we get Amy who cares more about clothes and make up than horses, Ty who doesn't care enough about Amy to be honest with her about meeting someone else, and horse stories that don't make sense or make up at least half the book, which they should. I can live with Amy and Ty apart, what I can't do is put up with bad writing and beloved characters being turn in to people they're not.

No need to start name calling. And to you they may be 'just books' but if caring about what I read makes me crazy in your view, I'm just fine with that cause I've got plenty of friends who are exactly the same way Smiley
