Okay, so im gunna try writing this, tell me wat u think. I can take the truth.
Fifteen year old Emma Harper sighed as she watched her young Thoroughbred-cross canter wildly around the ring. She stood in the middle, watching her buck.
Maybe my friends are right, she thought.
Maybe I won't be able to train her enough to break her. Her parents had bought Willow for her about 4 months ago. Ever since then, she'd kept her at her father's boarding stable, Cantercrest. Which was on the same property as her large Victorian-sytyled home. Her father was well known across the country for training horses and teaching riding lessons. All her life, she'd watched her father train everything from miniture Shetlands to big Clydes. Quiet to frisky. Gentle to Firey. Emma had even helped her father out, when he needed the horses to get used to more than one person working with them but now..she'd lost all hope in her self.
"Need any help in there?" Emma heard a voice calling from gate.
She turned and saw seventeen year old Todd Jenson leaning against the gate. Todd was one of the five stablehands that worked at cantercrest and by far, Emma's favourite. Not only because Todd had to be the hottest guy in the world. He had straight dark brown hair that fell into his chocolate brown eyes and a muscular body. He was nice, too, and funny, and smart, and new everything about horse! To Emma the list went on and on. But one reason why she could never be more greatful to the boy was because, either than her parents, he was the only one who thought she could succeed with Willow. She shook her head. "No thanks," she called.
Hunching her shoulders and dropping her gaze to show a less threatening posture, she walked towards the filly. Immediately she calmed down and started to trot towards her owner. Despite her fiery personality, Willow loved people and Emma especially. The pink thing in Emma's hand; however, not so much. As soon as she realized Emma had a saddle pad in her hand, she turned on her hindquarters and bolted the other way.
Emma sighed and walked over to the gate to meet Todd. "Here,"she said handing him the pad.
"Hey," he said softly,"you'll get her eventually, she's only two."
She nodded glumly.
"Come on," he reassured her. "You don't plan to break her 'til she's three right?"
"Of course not!" Emma exclaimed, aghast that anyone would ever break a horse before three.
"then you have a whole year to get her used to tack!"
She smiled greatfully at his enthusiasm. "I guess your right."
"She's been here for four months and when she got here, she knew
nothing. Now, you've got her to pick up all hooves easily, lead her with no distress, have her tied and be crosstied. Along with, you know, not getting spooked at sudden noises," he added teasingly.
Emma blushed at the last part. Although she was an amazingly graceful rider, she wasn't at grooming. she had a tendency to drop her brushes. But it worked out for her this time. With the sudden noise of dropped brushes, the sound of platic bags and a few other noises along the way, Willow was just about immuned to most sudden noises.
"Anyway," he said. "You're doing an amazing job. Maybe put the saddle pad on the gate of her pasture or the door of her stall, so she gets used to it."
She knew what he meant. Willow thought of the blanket as a threat. And just like picking a horse's hooves where it takes away their natural instinct to flee, it would take time to get used to. "Thanks but i think your just saying im doing good."
"and why would I do that?"
"Because either than my parents, your the only one who says that."
"And who tells you your not? Your friends?"he asked rolling his eyes.
"Yes."
"What do those girls who come here twice a week to ride their horses who are already groomed and ready to go know about training horses?"
Surprisingly she couldn't take that offensivly. Her friends did only come about twice a week to see there horses. And although, they were good riders, they didn't have a good bond with their horses and to Emma, that was the best part of riding.Plus, her friends had bought their horses already professionally - by Emma's dad- broke. They were rich just like Emma, but the difference, Emma cared more about the horses than the prizes they brought."Well they think they know everything?"
"If anybody here knows everything about horse it's me,'' he joked but then added more seriously, "and you."
"Whatever." emma didn't want him to know how much she loved him praising her.
"You are. You have no idea, do you?"
"No idea about what."
Todd blushed. She hadn't known and now he'd have to tell her. "you know that Equestrian university?" He paused, so she nodded."Well, the guy who's head of the riding department was here last week when you were jumping Timmy and he asked your dad if you were trying out for the Olympic team."
She rolled her eyes. "No, he didn't"
"Yes. Im not lying to you, at all. Your really great Em. Ive saw you ride over 4 foot jumps with no saddle and not even inch a bit out of where youre supposed to be!"
Emma smiled in an attempt to hide the blood creeping up into her cheeks. "I got to end this on a good note, so I'm going to lead her around for a bit. Are there any chores left?"
Toddshook his head. "Just evening feeds and your dad wants all the horses in tonight it's supposed to rain."
"Okay, I'll be doen in twenty. will you take this thing"-she pointed to the saddle pad-"with you?"
After he agreed, she grabbed her lead line and headed towards Willow. She had stopped running around a little after Todd and her had started to talk and most of her sweat was gone. She stood quiet as Emma attached the line to her halter. Without hesitation the young horse went forward as Emma did and stopped immediatly when her owner did.
Maybe Todd's right. She's come a long way in four months.Sorry if it sucked and sorry about bad grammar and such, I just kinda made it up as i wrote it. Please tell me what you think, if you guys like it ill put more on
