Playing for Keeps is an excellent book written in Lani Hernandez's point of view. Lani is a fiesty girl and between her and her horse-loving friends, Dylan, Honey and Malory, she manages to overrule her parents and win the fight to stay at Chestnut Hill. Lani's parents tell her that she is going to have to leave Chestnut Hill because her grades for the semester were too low--and no buts! Lani studies like crazy to try and win over her parents--find out what happens in Chestnut Hill's Playing for Keeps.

I loved the way Lauren has captured the emotions of Lani, and I think that it shows a sense of perseverence and how you can do anything you set your mind to. I also loved the fact that it included Lani's family and even small links between the books, such as the mentioning of Honey's cancerous brother Sam and how Dylan and Patience had fallen out big time. It really padded out the story. There is also an ongoing link for Malory and Caleb--the cute Saint Kits 7th grader as throughout the books all the girls take comfort in helping Malory and later Honey with their love lives!

But on the other hand there were a few points for improvement such as there could have been more detail about the girls riding and even more importantly about their personalities.

But all in all I have re-read the book and I would have to give a 10 out of 10!

Happy reading!
Enjoy
