Making Strides is in Malory O'Neil's perspective. It's been a few weeks since she's made the riding team and her new best friends are Dylan, Honey, and Lani (especially Dylan who she feels closest too, because Dylan was the one who convinced her to stay when she wanted to leave). Malory messes up at Homecoming and Lynsey goes right into chewing her out. Then Ms. Carmichael takes Mal and Dylan to look at new horses. They buy Foxy Lady and Winter Wonderland, and then Mal sees Tybalt -- a dark bay who has English breeding. He's wary and defensive, but Mal, with the help of Amy Fleming, get through to him, and at the end of the book, Mal even ends up riding him at the AllSchools practice show. Meanwhile all of this, Mal has earned a place at CH. At the Halloween party, her friends dress her up as Cleopatra and she sees Caleb and he mistakes her as Patience (since Lynsey and Jason set him up with her). Caleb asks Patience out, but at the end he broke up with her and asks Mal out. At the show, Dylan, Honey, Lani, and Malory hear Patience confess to Caleb she turned Dylan in. This book was/is AWESOME!!!!
